By Jibrin Hussaini Kundum, Bauchi The Bauchi State Ministry of Education has warned that any private school that fails to comply with the directive to provide accurate and reliable data for this year’s Annual School Census (ASC) will be shut down permanently. The State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim, gave the warning during a one-day stakeholders’ engagement on the dissemination of the State Education Strategic Plan (SESP) and the 2024/2025 Annual School Census. The event took place at the Medical and Health Workers Secretariat, Bauchi. He said the exercise is aimed at generating accurate data to support effective planning and policy implementation in the education sector across Bauchi State. The commissioner also dismissed rumours that private schools providing accurate information would be subjected to additional government taxes or revenue payments. He said this is not the intention of the state government. Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim explained that the Annual School Census remains a critical tool for collecting credible information on schools, enrollment, infrastructure, teachers and learning facilities. According to him, the data will enable the government to make informed decisions and improve service delivery across the education sector. The Commissioner stressed that the state government is determined to ensure that no school is left behind in the exercise, noting that both public and private schools have important roles to play in providing quality education. He urged school proprietors and managers to provide accurate and timely information to school census officials. The Commissioner also described the State Education Strategic Plan as a roadmap for achieving sustainable development in education, adding that the document outlines key priorities and strategies for improving access, quality and learning outcomes across the state. PDP Slams Gombe Govt Over Demolitions, Expulsions, LG Local Polls
PDP Slams Gombe Govt Over Demolitions, Expulsions, LG Local Polls The Gombe State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has launched a scathing attack against the administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, describing recent government actions as “immoral and a gross abuse of democratic principles and the Nigerian Constitution”. In a press statement signed and made available to Jewel Time by the party’s State Publicity Secretary Abdulƙadir Ahmad Dukku, the opposition party condemned ongoing demolition exercises of public properties and structures, which the state government claims are in violation of land management policies. The PDP further alleged that the State Governor was seen in a viral video “making statement that didn’t commensurate with his position as Governor of Gombe State,” asserting that “such vulgar utterances violates the fundamental rights to dignity of the human person as well as the administration of democratic principles in governance”. Beyond the demolition exercise, the PDP expressed strong opposition to the recent expulsion of Gombawa Motors from the Dankwambo Mega Motor Park. The party argued that the transport company is being targeted due to its political leanings, stating that its members “have equal right to express their political inclination as guaranteed by the Nigeria constitution”. The PDP maintained that as taxpayers, the owners of the transport outfit have a right to utilize public facilities “without any political intimidation”. Furthermore, the opposition party declared the recently concluded Local Government Council elections a “mockery of the sensitivities of the people of Gombe State and lacking transparency”. The PDP, which boycotted the polls, characterized the electoral exercise as “a child play where ballot boxes were not taken to the polling units which was a repeatation of the Kangaroo 2024 Local Government Council Elections” under the current administration.
